Hopefully they’re working on a Mac port

That. Was. Awesome!
Especially when he started talking about the dual erasers
Thanks Macenstein!
August 13th, 2007 at 5:21 am
that was hilarious!!!!!
August 13th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
ha ha ha ha
i watched it without sound and it was still entertaining.
August 13th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
I love paint!!
I am a graphic artist and MS Paint is the only tool I need in my tool box.
What would computers be like without it?
I can’t wait for the dual eraser upgrade. Is it going to be in the Vista SP1?
August 13th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
hahah that was funny.

I want it!

Why is this funny?

Paintbrush 0.8:
August 13th, 2007 at 1:37 pm
bloody class stuff :0
August 13th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
They’re making fun of Paint, but it sounds exactly like how Mac zealots talk.
August 13th, 2007 at 1:46 pm
Brandyn: It’s not.
August 13th, 2007 at 1:50 pm
boring…
August 13th, 2007 at 1:58 pm
Wow. Mac fans trying to make fun of a program that’s 15 years old for being too simple. Me saying that it’s hilarious would be even more sarcastic than most of what they said in the video. What is this, some week long student project?
August 13th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
the future is in the past
August 13th, 2007 at 2:06 pm
Mac snobs! Boring AND unfunny!
August 13th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Yep… boring…
August 13th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
so… people who own macs (as witnessed by the one button mouse and mac keyboards) like making fun of old MS applications.
I guess you really do learn something everyday!
August 13th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
Mac Snob? I love that catchall.
How about Winidiot….
Change is good….
August 13th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
Can we thing the line?
No.
Okay
August 13th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
well this was fucking retarded
August 13th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
Guess I never looked at paint as a Graphic Arts program. Just something fun to add to the OS out-of-the-box. Mac Fools.
August 13th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
hahaha. Mac fangirls making fun of something this old is amazing. Whats next, the fangirls start making fun of MINESWEEPER! Its still more advanced than any mac game ;P
August 13th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
Funny
August 13th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
Few good ones but mainly dull, liked the future is the past line but thats about it. Fanboi stuff should be noted up front, after years and years of this stuff it quits being funny. Hey Mac people love Mac, Window people love Windows, and Linux people…… well we are not sure what they do when the lights are out. (JK). Got all three, use all three, like all three, myself.
August 13th, 2007 at 3:05 pm
I can’t believe no one gets this shit. its making fun of artists. like the graphic designer who says paint is all he needs. There is almost nothing artistic about using MSPaint.
mac snobs?
more like the internet is filled with morons.
August 13th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
Well, they finally did it. I expected something was up when Steve Ballmer got on stage dancing and screaming “Painters. Painters, Painters..”. I really am amazed that his words have come to fruition and with such style!
August 13th, 2007 at 3:17 pm
the 3d pipes screen saver was crackin me up
August 13th, 2007 at 3:22 pm
Funny thing to me, is even the winidiots quickly write-off MSPaint as a novelty toy. You don’t have to be an anything-snob to appreciate that.
Considering how Winblows wants to be everything to everybody, finding this little artifact still on new OSes is amusing.
August 13th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
Hahaha, the best part was the guy dressed with the turtle neck. I think the stereotype of the MAC users was the funniest part. You’d think they would come up with a more clever piece of software to make fun of instead of a 15 year old basic graphic application…Oh well.
Oh and just an FYI, paint actually can produce some pretty amazing pieces, check this guy out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZNYnO2m560
August 13th, 2007 at 3:26 pm
Awesome!
I wanna be a graphic designer!
August 13th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
It’s funny because OS X comes with iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD, 3 pretty powerful multimedia applications and Windows comes with… Paint. Yeah, one could argue that it’s in bad form to make fun of a 15 year old application, but that’s not really what they’re doing, they’re making fun of the fact that the best graphics program included with windows is STILL a 15 year old application. I guess there is the Windows movie program, but that’s as archaic and useless as paint, even though it was written more recently.
It’s not just multimedia where Macs have a leg ahead as far as pack-ins go, though, there are hundreds of really cool tools that come already installed on a new Mac (or on the included install media).
August 13th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Agreed, 3d pipes was the funniest part. Maybe the only funny part.
August 13th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
oh some people just aren’t very perceptive..though THEy tragically criticize those who are.
August 13th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
The video is hysterical - and nice production too. Folks stuck on windows are fools. Windows users come up with any exuse to _not_ try Linux or OSX. Vista - hahahahaha.
August 13th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
some people can make some cool stuff in paint http://youtube.com/watch?v=vUWqRhReaZk
August 13th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
for those who don’t understand why this is funny.
- they make it sound like they invented the first paint program. But MS Paint appears to be just a knockoff of MacPaint which was out years before this and others paint programs long before that:
http://www.computerhistory.org/archive/14_paint.pdf
- the people are just such perfect geeks/artists
- its a classic example of tech marketing in the 80’s
- everybody looks very 80’s
- the language is so contrived. they try and speak so slowly and often sound like they are speaking like william shatner.
- it shows how far we’ve come.
- they talk about how amazing it is that you save a file electronically on disk. wow.
- they also make it sound like they invented the spray can tool.
check out the (whas was considered high tech) screensavers behind them.
its funny, its history, don’t take it personally.
August 13th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
That was good.
I love the part where they spend 8 months picking the best 12 colors.
Even as a Windows Fanboy..this was funny
August 13th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
They’re not just making fun of Paint. Every promo video for the latest and greatest version of insert-big-name-app-here is like that… and they nailed it. Hard.
August 13th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
I liked it, it’s well-executed. But there’s something the Mac users here seem to forget: the Mac doesn’t have a simple application like Paint in its toolbox. And you know something: it’s pretty damn useful. It doesn’t have a lot of features and I haven’t seen many changes in it [if at all] in all the time I know it, but it’s very useful for simple editing work in graphics. I use it -all the time- at work.
Another one I use every day: the Notepad. Thanks for showing me that one, Edwin! Of course, TextEdit is an extremely powerful text editor and I’ve done some really groovy stuff with it.
But a Paint-like application is not a stupid idea. And the usefullness is proven by the fact that it’s in every version of Windows.
I’m as hardcore a Mac driver as they come, and I’d rather not use a computer than use Windows [at home, don’t want to at work but I don’t have a choice there] but not every feature in Windows is bad. If you compare it to iLife, it’s a toy, there is just -nothing- like iLife anywhere, certainly not for that money, but that doesn’t mean Paint can’t have any added value. The small apps like Sound Recorder, Notepad and Paint are just about as useful as you could want.
For what it needs to do, Paint kicks butt, and you -can- create art with it, there are examples, but you need some patience :).
Having said that, Paint, Sound Recorder and a few other clever ideas don’t make me a Windows fan. I can run Windows in Boot Camp or in a virtual machine if I wanted to. The idea alone is enough to make me squirm. Mac all the way, baby!
August 13th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
I thought this to be a rather interesting video myself. I didn’t know paint was created by such brainy persons. A few years ago I found paint on my computer that I purchased, and began experimenting with it, to see how it work, and began using it with what I was then studying in art, along with photo shops, the use paint and of photo enhancements, basically for myself to determine who the rightful artists may have been. I do know my own techniques I use in using these programs, are of my own, not actually used by others,.. for making the same determinations, when concerning who correct artists might just happen to have been, when concerning the old masters of fine art.

[to frances] — e-bleeding-xactly. Given Apple don’t want to give people the ability to edit images (yes, I know you can crop in Preview, but that’s not what I need), I’ve spent a lot of time hunting around for a free pixel-based editing app on the Mac, and while there’s the gimp, that’s not really trivial to get going.
Sure, Paint is old and cheesy, but it’s there, it’s free, and it works..
August 13th, 2007 at 4:30 pm
People don’t use paint anyway. They use photoshop which is cross platform. Stupid mac nazis.. >_>
August 13th, 2007 at 4:37 pm
you can tell that this was done by mac fans not by the fact that they are dissing a windows app but by the ridiculous haircuts.
ha.. now you notice, it’s true, you can tell a Mac user by the fact that they all look like they have just had a do-over by those queer eye guys. you know it’s true.
It was pretty funny still..
August 13th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
Theres time I will never get back, what a complete idiotic video.
August 13th, 2007 at 5:01 pm
Xocide, if your time is so precious, I would suggest avoiding the internet entirely.
August 13th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
AHAHAHAAAAAHHHH!!!! HAHAHA,
That was rediculous!
What a pack of wankers!
August 13th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
Xocide, I can see that time is so crucial to you, you wasted twice as much by writing a fuckwit comment…
August 13th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
Haha.. Truely epic! I wonder what Microsoft will say? :p
August 13th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
Boring, un funny badly acted - thanks f’ktards
August 13th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
some of you guys missd the point completely wow I can not believe how many stupid people there are on earth.
They are introducing a new technology because MS never introduced paint.
What are the selling points in MS paint?
August 13th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Alright, Paint sucks ass when compared to other graphics software. But as stated by Francis, it’s a free tool that comes with Windows and does exactly what it should do.
It’s simple, it’s quick and it has most of the simple graphics operations you could want. In fact, Paint has been updated to accept new file-types and has undergone some other tiny improvements. If you’re a designer, you buy PhotoShop, Illustrator or some other high-profile software which is designed specifically to suit your needs. If you really want high-end stuff, you buy a wacom pad and it will give even more possibilities.
The point is, I’m happy MS didn’t bloat Windows with a piece of software which is completely irrelevant to 95% of it’s users. The way these guys are using it to make fun of Windows is stupid and short-sighted. It does exactly what it should do, and as they pointed out, it even has a spray can!
August 13th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
are you people stupid??? this obviously went over most of your heads. the video was NOT making fun of windows and obviously had nothing to do with mac fanboy’ism. it was a comedy sketch based on software marketing. its that simple, idiots.
August 13th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
FANTASTIC!!! Wish I had thought of it!!!!
August 13th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
Now watch the copycats come out of the woodwork.
Bet Notepad is next, LOL!!!
August 13th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
AHAHAHAH..oh..wait. I almost ejaculated myself.
August 13th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
The screensavers were more funny than the video.
August 13th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
This is a Mac blog, the appropriate venue for this type of story. If you don’t like it there are plenty of other places to show your love for Microsoft.
August 13th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Ok, it was funny enough. But MS Paint is awesome for it’s use.. For example pixel art and design.
August 13th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
This is stupid, depending on your skill you can create an amazing image with just pixel editing. Do not forget this.
evidence : http://youtube.com/watch?v=vUWqRhReaZk
August 13th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Part of it was funny, some of it was stupid. All I can say is that MS-Paint really needs an upgrade . . . at least include the ability to make layers, and I’m happy. Anyways . . . that video is reason #1 why I have no respect for marketing majors.
August 13th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Fucking Mac people. Only sense of humor is ripping on a product more than ten years old? Wow, why not just make fun of the first microwave model. I’m sure that will be a big hit as well
August 13th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Interesting. Took me a second to realize it was a joke LOL
I love it when the girl is like “Can we get this line thinner?”
“No.”
I’ve so been that guy, limited by technology in my designs before and have been in a situation like that. “No.”
August 13th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
However there are so many things you can do with Paint
http://yuxt.com/zaq/MS_paint
August 13th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
lol : “2 erasers SIDE BY SIDE, literially, we can erase TWICE AS FAST” well, he seemed pretty excited about the dual-erasers…
August 13th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
That program looks like it will work really well. When is it going to be coming out?
August 13th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Macenstein rules!
August 13th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
lol wow i didn’t know so many mac haters read a mac site…
August 13th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
Digg links to the site. But this is lame.
August 13th, 2007 at 10:03 pm
Hahaha! Oh man, that’s great!
August 13th, 2007 at 10:17 pm
This application is way too advanced for my needs. Would it be possible for your team to build me a simple to use text program, where I could type stuff, and then save it to my computers hard drive.
An electronic “Note Pad ” if you will.
Please notify me if this application ever becomes reality. -Baked

“You just click on the icon and it opens in a matter of minutes..”
August 13th, 2007 at 10:42 pm
people dont understand that apple makes beautiful things…ipod… iphone??? microsoft software may be everywhere but apple is beautiful…and good to use… it gets the task done… where as in windows you’re still trying to work out how to install your anti-virus software..
August 13th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
lol, check out the humourless windullards
its a joke you utter, utter spastics
fantastic stuff
August 13th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
That’s pretty lame…I’m beginning to think that Mac users are using the tactics that the stupid conservatives in the US have used the past ten years especially…make lame attempts at deriding the competition with such unfunny parodies.
That being said, thanks for finally making fun of MS Paint! It only took you 22 years to do so!
Way to go, Macenstein!
PS - Mac haters (or those of us who are indifferent) don’t read this site, this traffic is coming from Digg.
Dugg down for being lame.
August 13th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
funny, but what would i use on my mac to paint?
August 13th, 2007 at 11:41 pm
man, you PC guys are so touchy
its not the funniest parody ever, but its certainly amusing. What’s far far funnier are some of the riled up, angry responses from mac haters. Now THAT’s comedy.
Seriously guys, take a break sometime huh?
August 13th, 2007 at 11:55 pm
Must note, though, that with Winblows 2000+ came the ability for MSPaint to work with JPEGs. No more messing around with 3rd party apps to convert those huge bitmaps (tho if you know what a “file format” is, would you be f*ing with Paint to start with?)!
August 14th, 2007 at 12:15 am
MACS SUCK
LOL
August 14th, 2007 at 12:42 am
Pixels are pixels.
Paint is just as valid of an image-rendering program as any other. It’s your issue if you need shortcuts.
August 14th, 2007 at 1:27 am
Ha, Those towns are in northern Wisconsin. They have way too much free time up there.
August 14th, 2007 at 1:38 am
There is an app called “Seashore” for the Mac that installs and runs “gimp”. Has capabilities very similar to photoshop.. and it’s free.
August 14th, 2007 at 3:17 am
What we here, is some seeming to be making a lot of hype out of nothing. I want you all to know, I use theirs tools to redo a cartoon I did of Vincent van Gogh painting on his easel,… and I think it came out pretty nice. What do you all think of it? Here is the address if you care to see it after using Paint. link1
LOL This bottom link will take you to the original before the overhaul, even though it was all there, it was hard to make out for some, so I made it so they could get the real meaning out of it. The address to this original drawing, before being reworked. link2
If this is to harsh for the one to look at,… ones who have been writing these witty lines,… feel free to delete it.
Cheers!

Mac humor seems to be the only kind of humor inherently less funny than unix humor. Who’d have thought?
August 14th, 2007 at 4:26 am
OK, to the snobbies who think this oh so funny. I travel independently and a lot. And I go to places where sometimes you are just lucky if there is an internet café AND the computer has an USB port. But let me tell you one thing, those WIN98 or WIN2000 machines ALWAYS have a free, simple tool to quickly crop my images and upload them to my travel website. Sure, I could do it server side (I’m a web developer) but uploading 3 MB on a 56k line is boring, so that’s not really an option. Of course I’d prefer to do it in PS - but hei, for some strange reasons the internet café in Shymkent, Kazakhstan didn’t invest over 1k into PS. Darn. Solution: MS Paint. Cheap and easy. And I can still jazz up my images later when I’m at home and have my own computer and software.
So, people, think before you write something. Yes, we all prefer a decent photo editing tool over MSPaint - but there might be people who are glad that Windows comes with some sort of graphic tool at all.
August 14th, 2007 at 5:05 am
You can MSPaint on a Mac!
http://dilldoe.org/blog/?p=66
with predefined photoshop brushes and palette
August 14th, 2007 at 5:44 am
LOL…
It’s funny how people are saying it’s making fun of Paint. Well, it’s not. I actually looks like it’s making fun of the Mac, since macs don’t come with a simple image-editing tool like paint.
August 14th, 2007 at 8:40 am
Lame and unfunny.
August 14th, 2007 at 10:10 am
Funny! To those snickering about mac fans making fun of a 15 year old program… you’re missing the whole point. It’s making fun of the “infomercial” style mac propaganda. Obviously it’s a spoof… The high quality looking sub titles, the pan and scan camera work, the ultra modern work space… hilarious!
Quite well done if you ask me (and I’m a mac fan).
August 14th, 2007 at 10:32 am
lol it’s a little funny, but Paint did something great - it made image editing available to the general user, people who didn’t know that they could edit easily.
August 14th, 2007 at 11:57 am
That is Microsoft for you. Innovation via Imitation and Intimidation.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
Does Macintosh come packaged with any kind of software to create any kind of graphics?
I had the misfortune of using Tiger for a few days, and when I needed to create a simple illustration, I ended up going on the Internet and downloading some trialware!
And if you think that porting something like that is dubious, check out Kolourpaint, for UN*X platforms
http://kolourpaint.sourceforge.net/screenshot0_big.png
August 14th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Anyone who is offended by this is missing the point. The people in this video are proposing that the program Paint–simple, limited, and dated–is profoundly beneficial and shows promise in the future of digital media.
It is meant to be sarcastic because Paint would never be considered a choice tool by any professional designer. I doubt the makers of this video were trying to start a platform debate… Adobe makes the products that professionals use (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Flash) and they are readily available on BOTH platforms!
August 14th, 2007 at 5:19 pm
Thats halirious is that what PC’s use to design? I’ve been on Mac’s my whole life and now that I see what PC’s use, Mac is a far superior platform
August 14th, 2007 at 11:28 pm

August 15th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
Hilarious! Also noticed that all but one of those speakers had Apple systems or at least Apple peripherals.
August 17th, 2007 at 12:40 pm
Hmm, yeah, Mac port… It was on the Mac first. MacDraw.
August 17th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Very well done aside from the squirrely guy with the terrible accent. Almost ruined it for me.
August 17th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
Well i enjoyed it but most PC users dont use paint to replace doing things in real life
If i wanted to make myself a good picture or edit one i would use photoshop. Ms paint is just a default application for little kids or if you need to do something really quickly.
